A correction on the Trinity Study. The 4% rule only holds over a 30 year retirement. There have been historical markets of 30+ years where 4% would run out. For true historical perpetuity I believe the number is like 3.6%. Although some people believe the markets will never be as bad as they have been in the past. And using only the most recent 50 years would suggest that 5%+ is a safe withdrawal rate for perpetuity.

Bought a brand new Honda in 2008. Still driving it and still LOVE it. New Jetta in 2013. Still driving it and LOVE it. All the used cars we bought to “save” money had multiple breakdowns and there was a reason the original owner ditched it. I’m only buying new again. We keep up with maintenance and know the history. My dogs have been more than pets. They give you purpose, get you out for exercise, provide protection, provide emotional support and make you laugh. You can’t travel all the time and kids grow up fast. What is your idea of a “big” house?

I've made this point before but it bears making again. While all this advice makes perfect sense, the one big problem with "invest for the future" is it might never come. Having at least some plans for how you're going to manage your future is definitely a good idea BUT as anyone who's lost someone before their time knows, that day you're planning for in 30 years MIGHT never come (without wishing to sound morbid)

Agree with you about the pets, they are a burden for me. I might get some hate for that, but I'm not saying they are a burden to everyone, they just are for me. We spend alot of money for human-grade high quality food for them, put them up in boarding when we go on an overseas trip or have friends or family look after them, so they are well cared for, we just don't get the warm and fuzzies from them like most other people do. I disagree with you about the restaurants. We put $20/week away for a special meal, every 6 months thats $500 for a special occasion and life's short, so we enjoy it and it's guilt free because in our minds that $20/week is not much and it's already accounted for. Sounds like you didnt have a great experience at the fancy restaurant, and thats a shame, because when you find a good one, its a real treat! Sure we can put that $20 a week toward something else, but you gotta live a bit and do some things that give you joy before you disappear forever.

It might be that you are more authentic and bring in more critical thinking, as well as trying less of “trending” videos, when suddenly all of the finance themed RUclipsrs do same videos, like “get ahead of 99% of everyone else” Keep up being honest, common sense, and questioning well-established concepts

My wife and I were the black sheeps in our family while everyone else were after the name brands, new car, and all the hype. We were made fun of in the process, as we never jump in the bandwagon; until 2 years ago; that her and I paid off our our mortgage; had the property rented out for travel overseas; not just to travel but to live; many wondered; HOW? Living simple; and not keeping up with the Jones's was a bitter sweet idea that made it all possible. Awesome video.

God through Christ is the fulfillment that is missing. Natural life can only provide so much for humans no matter if you retire early or work forever. Retiring early and having more time to spread eternal salvation to the world while loving my wife and growing our family is goals for me 💯

How did you get rich and why? What is the point of your life. Sounds like you have something to prove. Actively trying to look "poor" is just as bad as actively trying to look "rich." It all comes down to ego in the end. Also, how do poor people look anyway? I have actually been rich, poor and in-between; and have always presented myself in a professional manner in dress, words, and actions. To put on a show and pretend to be someone I'm not is ...well.... a lie.

Sure, along with that I’d say stop judging others for their choices. If someone else wants to work a part time job in order to make that truck payment is entirely up to him. Unless he came up to you asking for advice and complaining about living paycheck to paycheck because of his truck payment. I often see people “bragging” about their minimalist lifestyles and how wealthy that has made them…. So, they are fronting their own lifestyle over others’. There are some people that grew up dirt poor and want to experience certain indulgences before they’re too old to enjoy anything. Maybe finding that balance is key. 🤷🏻‍♂️
